Home Schooling | Calvert Education

Spring is in the air! Before long, it will be the end of the school year.  This was our first year home schooling and we chose to use Calvert Education, to help us with our home schooling journey.

We knew that we would like to home school, but it was all new to our family.  The people we know who do home school, many make their own curriculum.  I knew for me that was not what I wanted to do in the beginning.  With some research, I found Calvert Education. They were the best match for our home schooling needs.

Toddler girl is four, so we use the Pre-Kindergarten Homeschool Curriculum. “Begin your child’s education with our exciting Pre-Kindergarten homeschool curriculum designed to balance work and play and awaken a student’s love of learning.” (Calvert Education website)

Enrolling was very easy. I did everything online. Once enroll, you will receive you curriculum in the mail within no time. You will also have access to online resources. The curriculum focuses on Reading Readiness, Number Readiness, Music, Games & Play, Stories & Poems, Discussion, and Activities.  I also use some workbooks I brought at the store to have extra practice material on hand.

Here is what came included in the curriculum:

  • Pre-Kindergarten Lesson Manual
  • Open Eyes workbook
  • Path to Math workbook
  • Road to Reading workbook
  • Stories and Poems workbook
  • Kindergarten Fun workbook
  • Read-to-Me Storybook
  • Favorite Nursery Songs CD
  • Favorite Nursery Songs book
  • Modeling Clay – 1 box
  • Drawing Paper  – 3 packs of 50
  • Newsprint – Pad – 1 pack of 50
  • Construction Paper – 2 packs of 100
  • Yarn
  • Fit A Space
  • A to Z Puzzle
  • Blank Pad
  • Supply Kit 10a & 12 – pencils, connecting cubes, paint, paint brush, different color pipe cleaners, plastic needle for the yarn

Overall, it has been a great experience.  I asked toddler girl this week if she like her school, want to continue on with home schooling, and to use the Calvert Education lessons. The answer was YES! We will be continuing on with Calvert Education Kindergarten Homeschool Curriculum.  We will also be adding the Advisory Teaching Service (ATS). “Enrolling your child in Calvert’s optional Advisory Teaching Service enhances your educational experience with personal, constructive, and encouraging feedback for your child from a Calvert Advisory Teacher.” (Calvert Education website) With ATS test can be submitted via email and results sent back by email.

Toddler girl is learning and the curriculum takes out the stress of have to make my own curriculum.  I am very happy that we have found the best fit for home schooling.

Though I’m an empty-nester now, I have very fond memories of Calvert’s curriculum. Easy to follow, easy to teach. We continued on through 8th grade, and it was a sad goodbye when my son moved into high school and Calvert no longer offered curricula,

*sigh* I do miss those days.

      Hi Linda!
Yes, the curriculum is day to follow and teach. Which is plus for a newbie like myself. Glad to hear another good review about Calvert. Makes me very glad I chose them.

I’ve got to say, I’m really considering home school for my daughter. I’ve heard/witnessed first hand the horrors of public education. I will definitely look into this. Thank you so much for sharing!
