I have seen on many forums the debate of why breastfeeding is the best choice. Well, this is not a debate; this is what I chose as the way to feed my baby and I am just sharing my story. I know for some mom’s it is a way to be closer to the baby. For some mom’s, well formula is expensive so why spend money (especially if you are on a budget) on something you body is making. This is just me sharing that I got plenty of sleep and I didn’t breastfeed my baby. I’m not trying to tell any mom what is best for her baby. That’s for each mom to decide.
When I found out I was pregnant, I knew that I did not want to breastfeed. When my OBGYN ask my plan, I let him know and from there not one, doctor, nurse, or other health care professional tried to tell or convince me as to why breastfeed was the best option or right thing to do. Oh, did I mention, after giving birth to my daughter I also got plenty of sleep? Yes, you read it right. I got plenty of sleep; I actually got more sleep than when I was pregnant.
Now, I know you are wondering… Was there some medical reason or other reason for not breastfeeding? Nope. I just preferred not to, it was not for me. And I don’t see anything wrong with mom’s who do chose to breastfeed, because it’s their choice. My daughter is healthy and I was not the only one she depended on to feed her when she was hungry, especially at night. My husband was also able to feed her. We were lucky, she slept like clock work. By 8pm, it was bedtime and she slept until midnight, and after a midnight feeding was didn’t wake up again at about 5am. And in the daytime when she took a nap, we took a nap to. Housework, all of that could wait, we decided to get rest because we would be no good to our baby if we were overly exhausted. Guess what five years later she still get sleepy about 8pm and is ready for bed, she is also still an early bird and doesn’t sleep late.
Want to know something else? No one judged me for not breastfeeding and no one tried to sway me to give it a try or same how it was the better choice. Guess what mom’s, do what is right for you and your baby. If it’s breastfeeding, go for it. If it’s to give your baby formula, go for it.

I don’t know why people always want to push what they think is right on others, but this was a great post. Every Mom and family should do what is best for them and people shouldn’t judge. It has become such a hot debate. Just like stay at home moms vs working moms, there shouldn’t be a difference since we are all moms!
Yes, it is a hot debate and it;s a debate that can get so heated. I am glad that family and friends did not try to sway my choice or judge because I didn’t breastfeed.
I had one child that was breastfed and he slept 7 hours through the night from birth. Now the other 3 boys did not.
I had planned on breastfeeding, but when our son was born with a cleft palate, I wasn’t able to. I don’t think either way is wrong. It’s between the parents, doctors, etc. Nobody else’s business! 🙂
I agree, it should be between the parents and doctor.
I think it is brave that you shared your story with us and I respond well to mom’s who don’t pass judgement on other moms for going a different route. It’s small minded to expect every mother to make the same choices. I for one am glad to hear you got some sleep at night! I know it’s a difficult thing to get for some mom’s of newborns. 🙂
I started breastfeeding with my oldest but I only did so for about 2/3 months. Not everyone is a breastfeeder, not everyone is supportive of formula. I think people should be supportive of whatever the parents decide.
I also didn’t breastfeed and I never wanted to either. I didn’t think it was right for me
