Recently there’s been a lot of chatter about sustainability and minimalism, which are definitely great topics to look into, especially if you’re interested in living an eco-friendly lifestyle. Still, shopping for clothes is a great way to make yourself feel better, which is why building a capsule wardrobe can be a bit challenging. But, with a bit of effort and determination, it’s totally possible to make it happen. For that reason, here are some tips on how to build your perfect capsule wardrobe based on your own body type:

1. Hourglass body type

This body type is probably the best known and most desirable of them all, especially in today’s age of celebrities like Beyoncé. If you’re lucky enough to be genetically blessed with a small waist and bigger bust and thighs, then you should know that dresses which accentuate your waist are the way to go. If you want to further emphasize your waistline, make sure to add a statement belt at or below your belly button. Basically, anything you wear will look good on you, but in order to be safe, try to stay away from loose clothes that will only hide your well-balanced proportions.

2. Pear body type

The pear body shape is currently the hottest one right now, mostly due to Kim Kardashian. If your body is pear-shaped, it means your thighs and butt are bigger than the upper part of your body. You can have a natural pear body type or achieve it through workouts, either way, feel free to flaunt your curves and be proud of your body. But, when it comes to choosing the right clothes, you’d definitely want to add some accent to the upper part of your body, so choose wide-legged pants or patterned dresses with a ruffled top. Also, skinny jeans, crop tops and V-necks are a great choice if you want to create an hourglass body type illusion.

3. Apple body type

In case your upper body is bigger than your lower body then you definitely have the apple body type. Since your bust is larger, you should focus on clothes that accentuate your legs, and also feel free to wear V and deep V necklines that will make your torso appear more elongated. Basically, printed dresses flared bottoms and the right bra are always the great choice. Now, it’s important to mention that it’s best to stay away from body-hugging dresses and high necklines, as these types of clothes aren’t complimenting your figure at all. When it comes to accessories, don’t forget to add one or two chic Bohemian leather bags that will make you look good on any occasion.

4. Rectangle body shape

As the name says, this body type is characterized by a lack of definition of one’s silhouette, even though the body is frequently properly balanced from shoulders to hips. Therefore, your legs and arms are your best asset, so you should focus on clothes that will let you accentuate that, so essentially, anything that comes with layered and ruffled tops as those will add more accent to your upper body. Additionally, don’t be shy to experiment with blazers, A-line skirts, coats, long jackets and any other pieces of clothes that are sleeveless and strapless, but try to avoid shapeless clothes as they’ll make you look boxy.

5. Banana body shape

Having a banana body type means you likely have a flat bottom, small to average bust and not a lot of curves. But, on a positive note, it also means that finding your perfect clothes isn’t that difficult since a banana body type is quite easy to dress. Since this body type is often considered boyish, it’s best to opt for clothes that will create curves and make you look more feminine. There are some similarities between this one and rectangular body type, so you can choose the clothes aimed for the latter. And unless you prefer androgynous style, it’s best to stay away from menswear clothing.

Conclusion

Before you start looking for clothes, make sure to determine your body type first. In case you’re unsure, feel free to ask someone to help you measure your body parts so you can be absolutely certain that you’ve gotten everything right. Only after you know your body type, you can start picking the best clothing items that will make you look great no matter when and where you are.
