Everyone celebrates Mother’s Day differently. Some families stick to celebrating immediate moms while others extend their celebrations to grandmothers, aunts, sisters, and other mommy figures in their lives. However it is that you choose to celebrate the women in your life, this article will provide you with fun ways to celebrate with all of them on Mother’s Day.

Your Partner and Mother of Your Child

If your partner or spouse is the mother of your child, you should be celebrating with them the most on Mother’s Day. For significant others, you want to make Mother’s Day slightly romantic and very much unlike how you plan on celebrating Mother’s Day with your own mother. Take some time to think about what your special lady would enjoy on this day and do your best to follow through completely. Some ideas include spa treatments, a fancy dinner, breakfast in bed (make sure the kids help make the pancakes!), and sweet cards that show her how much you and your family love her. We warn against doing the same thing for the mother of your kid(s) that you do for your mother. This will not go over well and will cause you quite a headache.

Your Own Mom

For your own mom, think of something you can do to make her feel special without dedicating too much of your celebration to her. Your partner should come first, so you’ll need to set aside some time to celebrate with your mom, not the entire day. If you happen to be one big happy family, then celebrating all together might be an option. You’d know if this was you, though, so don’t go out on a whim if get-togethers and staying close to the family are atypical. That might just be a recipe for disaster. Perhaps plan on a Mother’s Day brunch or make a phone call to wish her the best if you’re not in the same area. For thoughtful gifts, remember to be creative and think of new ways to show her you care. Please don’t leave her anticipating the same sentiments and handmade necklaces you’ve been making her since you were six. Put in some effort to do something different.

Miscellaneous Mothers Celebrations

For aunts, sisters, and other women who are not your own mother, find clever ways to say Happy Mother’s Day without overdoing it. You don’t want to be too celebratory towards women less associated with you on this day. Consider sending them a card in the mail or even a gift basket to wish them a Happy Mother’s Day. Consider these mothers day gifts for aunts when you’re really stumped.

You don’t need anything elaborate. If you’re close with your mother-in-law, you might make more of an effort and celebrate with your spouse. Treat her to an early dinner to show your appreciation or buy her a thoughtful gift like perfume or a Groupon credit to her favorite store. Pick a nice gift that reminds her to embrace her natural beauty at every age.

The Bottom Line

The bottom line is to go all out for your partner and your mom and make less effort, but still a thoughtful effort for everyone else. Avoid provoking jealousy or seeming too close for comfort and stick to these guidelines. We hope these suggestions cleared up some of the awkwardness that comes with celebrating a day for all the mother figures in your life. All moms should be celebrated on this day. Just remember to go about it the right way. Good luck!
