Europe is such a fantastic continent to explore. Whether you’re on a budget or want to explore a lot of places lavishly, it’s a heaven for alternative exploration.

With so many countries grouped together and transport being so easily accessible between each country, there’s really no excuse not to visit Europe at least once in your life.

Here are five alternative ways to explore Europe to ensure you make the most out of your trip.

Explore on Foot

Exploring Europe on foot is a fun and different way to see a range of things.

You’ll have an amazing time wandering around different cities, traversing through the suburbs and exploring local parks and villages.

Exploring Europe on foot is also incredible because everything is so easily accessible; there are plenty of great public walkways, national parks and beautiful forests to enjoy.

One particularly great place to explore on foot is the Camino de Santiago. It’s a great way to experience Portugal and Spain and allows you to stroll and traverse at your own pace, taking everything in as you go.

The Camino de Santiago is a wonderful destination to experience in Spain and Portugal and it’ll take you on lovely alternative routes that you’d have never discovered otherwise. While it might be a long and fairly arduous trek, it’s also incredibly rewarding and really fun.

Explore by Bus

Europe is also an excellent place for public transport, especially by bus. Buses and trams are so easily accessible in places such as Paris, Prague, and London and they’re a great way to see the city.

When you travel in Europe, there are many different parts of countries you can see, which means you can visit more than just their urban areas.

By staying outside of the city centre, you can still go to the city via bus, but you’ll be able to enjoy spending some quality time in the suburbs. Places like London are great for doing this as you’ll get to see all the alternative and quirky aspects of the city, without being ‘trapped’ by all the touristy places right in the centre.

Rent a Car and Get Off the Beaten Pack

Renting a car is another fantastic and alternative way to explore Europe. Iceland, in particular, is a brilliant country to drive around in and avoid its mainstream places.

Getting off the beaten path in Europe is a piece of cake because even though the continent isn’t huge, it still offers a variety of places that are mostly untouched and relatively unexplored.

By renting a car, you’ll get the chance to see an entirely unique side of a country as you won’t be limited to staying right in the centre.

Stay Outside of the City

As previously mentioned, staying outside of the city when traveling around Europe is an excellent way to ensure you enjoy an alternative experience.

Stay at a lovely Airbnb that’s just a couple of miles away from the centre so that you can still see the city easily, but you’ll also have your own space.

It’s also a great way to immerse yourself in the culture much better as you’ll likely find many more authentic restaurants and bars, rather than huge commercial food chains. You’ll probably also experience more of the local life when staying outside of the city as you’ll be staying in more boutique hotels and apartments where the locals live.

Establish a Budget Before You Travel

Establishing a budget before you travel to Europe is a sure-fire way to ensure you make the most out of your trip.

This way you’ll be able to choose certain activities and experiences that you want to do, without breaking the bank.

By establishing a budget, you can also find things to do that are more off the beaten path and are slightly more alternative, compared to the tourist traps that many places in Europe are infamous for.

Europe is an interesting place and a home to many incredible places to see and things to do. If you ever get the opportunity to explore the wonderful continent, you should definitely take it.

When it comes to alternative ways to explore Europe, there are so many different options at your disposal. From staying outside of the city and interacting with the locals much more to traveling on foot or by bus, Europe offers unforgettable experiences and you’re sure to enjoy your stay even more if you decide to explore it a little bit different than you usually would.

You should also establish a budget before you travel to Europe and consider hiring a car or using the bus to take you to different places within a country, so you can escape the noisy and busy hubbub of the city centres.
