All parents want what is best for their children. When it comes to schooling, however, what is best is rarely very clear. Even if you have problems with your child’s current school or the school system as a whole, the idea of homeschooling can be daunting. There are many challenges you must face when you decide to educate your own kids, but these challenges needn’t hold you back if you know how to handle them. With that in mind, here are six struggles to consider.

1. Lack of Effort

When you first begin homeschooling, you may see a lack of effort from your children. This is because kids often view traditional teachers and schooling more seriously than they do you and homeschool. To pique the interest of your little ones, you should teach in a way that they actually enjoy. Try taking a few months off quizzes and worksheets and plan a few field trips instead.

2. Gaps in Knowledge

Teachers have to train for years before they’re allowed in front of students. You, however, may not have this training. This means that you might not know or understand everything that you need to teach your children. Thankfully, there are resources to fill the gaps in your knowledge. From online lessons to education centers, it’s easier than ever to outsource education.

3. Spending Time Online

In many cases, homeschooling involves spending a lot of time online. This can be worrying for some parents, especially those of children who have dealt with cyberbullying. To put your mind at rest, you can monitor iPhone activity with Family Orbit. This makes it easier to keep an eye on your child’s internet activity, allowing you to spot and put a stop to any problematic behaviors.

4. Conflict with Siblings

Brothers and sisters who must spend several hours of every day together are going to get on each others’ nerves now and then. They will begin to compare one another, compete, bicker, and even fight. The best solution to this issue is to allow your kids to spend time apart. Let them have their own friends and pursue separate interests so that they don’t get under each others’ feet.

5. Caring for Babies

Babies require a lot of time and attention, which can make homeschooling your other children incredibly difficult. As soon as you get into a lesson, you can be sure that your little one will need feeding or changing. This is when you need to enlist the help of friends and other family members. You may also want to consider hiring a nanny or babysitter for a few hours each day.

6. Wearing Many Hats

Even when you have someone to help you look after your other children, there will still be dirty dishes, wilting plants, and empty cupboards to distract you. To be a successful homeschool parent, you need to find a way to manage all of these chores. While some employ extra help, like cleaners and gardeners, handing tasks to your children is educational and much cheaper.

Homeschooling your kids can be a challenge, but, hopefully, with the advice above, it’s one that you can deal with.
