We all lead busy lives, which is why sometimes we simply don’t think of ways to give back to others unless they are in need of support. However, making the effort to improve someone’s day can benefit all parties. Not only does treating people with kindness make you feel good, but it can make someone’s day feel special.

There are many ways to make someone’s day brighter and keep their stress at bay, and you don’t have to do anything extravagant. Instead, you can be selfless during day-to-day activities, because even small gestures can make a difference in someone’s day. Here are things you can do to make someone’s day.

1. Compliment Them

Compliments boost confidence, which can make a difference in someone’s day. Something as simple as complimenting someone’s hair or clothes can brighten their day and impact their mood drastically.

If you notice something about a person that proves they spent time on it, compliment that as well to make them feel even more appreciated. For example, if someone at work spent long hours on a project, take time out of your busy day to compliment their effort.

2. Cater to Their Sweet Tooth

If your friend or coworker loves sweets, you can purchase them desserts or cookie tins to brighten someone’s day. You never need a special occasion to get someone an affordable gift that they are sure to love. And who doesn’t love cookies?

3. Purchase Thoughtful Gifts

A thoughtful gift doesn’t have to be extravagant. Instead, it can show how much you listen to what someone says. For example, a coworker at work might have photos of their dog everywhere. For his or her birthday, you can ask them to send you a photo of their dog and have it printed on a custom birthday card. Thoughtful gifts like these show people that you care about their interests and hobbies.

Similarly, you can purchase subscription boxes for just about anything these days. If you know what someone likes but still aren’t sure exactly what to get them, let a subscription box do the work for you. For example, if your friend is an avid reader, you can purchase them a book subscription box for the year that will send them a new book monthly.

4. Video Chat Instead of Text

If your friend or family member has something special to talk about, ask them if they’d like to hop on a Zoom call instead of texting. While texting is the most popular method of communication, it’s still not as personal as your traditional phone call. Still, neither a phone call nor text is as personal as a video chat where you will be able to see and interact with the person you’re talking to.

5. Do Some Chores

Offer to do more chores around the house from time to time to take some tasks off of your loved one’s hands. This can brighten their day whether or not they’re having a bad day or a good day, but it can make stressful days much better when someone else does the chores.

You don’t have to do all the chores, but instead of allowing your spouse to handle the dishes every night, surprise him or her by doing them after dinner every so often.

6. Thank Them

Saying thank you to someone who did you a favor can have a huge impact on their day. So whether someone got you a glass of water when you were too lazy to get up or they’ve improved your life in a major way, make sure to always say thank you so that they know they are appreciated.

As you can see, it doesn’t take much to make someone’s day. Whether you get them a gift or simply complement their outfit, acts of kindness come in all shapes and sizes.
