Stress is something that everyone has dealt with. However, at some points in your life, it can feel like stress is taking over. Whether you’re feeling tense about work or have other factors creating stress in your life, figuring out how to handle it can be tough. Stress can manifest itself in many ways. Tense shoulders, headaches, and feelings of anxiety are just a few ways stress can show up in the body. However, feeling stressed can also have a pretty profound impact on your appearance.

When you have been under prolonged stress, it can feel like it’s etched into your face and taking over your body. Your posture may become slouched, and this can cause tension inside your shoulders and neck to get even worse. Your eyes may look tired, with bags and dark circles becoming worse. These changes to your appearance can happen so gradually that you barely notice that they’re there until they look really obvious. The problem is, noticing that stress is changing the way you look can make you feel even more stressed, so it becomes a vicious cycle. If you’re keen to reduce the impact of stress on your appearance, the following tips should help you achieve this.

Book a Treatment

When you’re feeling stressed, sometimes all you need is to give yourself some time out and the chance to refresh and rejuvenate your appearance. Booking a trip to a spa is an ideal way to do this. Taking a couple of hours to relax and unwind at Spencer’s Spa can provide a much-needed break from the stress of your day. Booking in targeted spa treatments, whether that’s a facial or a massage, will help you to forget about the stress, release any tension you’re holding in your body, and ensure your skin feels plumped and hydrated.

Spending time in a different environment and physically distancing yourself from your stress can provide the perfect opportunity for some deep relaxation.

Focus on Sleep

Sleep is crucial when you’re trying to manage stress. If you’re not getting enough sleep, it can feel almost impossible to function the following day, and your stress levels are likely to elevate even further. In terms of your appearance, a lack of sleep can cause your skin to appear puffy and your eyes to look tired. You will probably notice that your eye bags become larger and the shadows under your eyes become darker.

Make Time for Self-Care

Finally, it’s helpful to introduce small acts of self-care to your day in a bid to reduce the toll that stress may be taking on your appearance. These small acts of self-care could be anything from using a jade roller to release tension from your face to drinking water regularly throughout the day to stay hydrated and keep your skin plump.

Sometimes it’s just not possible to avoid stress completely. However, during this time, there are changes you can make to reduce the impact that stress has on your well-being and your appearance.
