The kitchen is the heart of the home. Everyone gathers there… not only for eating. If you have a gathering at your home, the kitchen is bound to be the spot where people congregate. Many people opt for granite in the kitchen as well as the bathroom, but have you considered quartz?

It’s ideal for high-traffic areas like the kitchen and bathrooms. Quartz though a little more in cost than granite is simply beautiful. It has become the popluar choice over granite in the recent years. For me, in my house hunting journey countertop material is one of the top things I look at. I want durable and stylish.

One company, Premier Surfaces has a great selection of quartz countertops that you can view in their showrooms. Below I am sharing the truth about quartz countertops. These are things you should consider when shopping for new countertops.

Durability

Quartz is strong! It is an engineered stone. It’s made from quartz crystals and a non-porous binder making it very durable. It has a hardness of seven on the Mohs scale. The Mohs scales is how the hardness of a mineral is measured.

Cleaner and Safer

A quartz countertop is nonporous and when it is properly sealed it makes it a cleaner and safer compared to other surfaces. You can easily wipe up any spills or crumbs.

Tips for cleaning:

  • Clean up spills right away.
  • Clean up spills with warm soapy water and a soft cloth.
  • For stains (coffee, red wine, etc.) use glass or surface cleaner and a nonabrasive sponge.

Practical

These countertops are heat resistant, scratch resistant, and resistant to stains. Keep in mind it’s said that the quartz countertop can handle heat up to 400 degrees. It is always best to use a trivet to place any hot pots on. Though it is scratch resistant it is also possible to get a scratch on it. Red wine, coffee, or tomato sauce, etc.  could leave a stain if it’s not cleaned up quickly.

Unique with a Boundless Variety

There are color and style choices that are extensive. With each quartz countertop having a unique end look and feel. Cambria Countertops has many of the popular color choices. Cambria is known for their cutting edge quartz countertop design and many designers love and ask about them when visiting the Premier Surfaces showrooms.  Here are some of the top color choices.

Brittanicca – Makes a statement. This color mimics some of the trending marbles on the market. It screams kitchen island! With a monochromatic look, it’s versatile and can go with any style. You will also see grey tones, which have been the trend for the past couple of years. White and dark color cabinet looks great with this color choice.

Summerhill – If you love the look of white granite, Summerhill is for you. It looks great with bold color cabinets. Below you can see the Summerhill color with white cabinets and accent of blue on the island.

Torquay –  It’s classic color and it goes well many styles. Very similar to Carrara marble. It works great in spaces that have limited countertop space, like the bathroom.

Blackpool Matte – If white or light colors is not your style then Blackpool Matte is for you. It’s sleek and doesn’t shine. Contrast well with the light colors in the kitchen or even bathroom.
