Many of us can reach a point in our lives when we lose our sense of direction. Certain unexpected events could make previous goals no longer possible. In other cases, we may develop doubts about certain life choices or beliefs, which may cause us to question what we really want from life. In such cases, it may feel as if we’ve lost our purpose, but it’s never too late to find a new purpose. Below are just some of the ways to give your life purpose when you feel lost.
Follow Your Passions
Think about what it is you are passionate about in life and consider investing more of your time into this in a productive way. For example, if you love reading, work out how you can get more from this passion. This could include joining a book club, publishing book reviews online via a blog/vlog, working at a bookstore, working within publishing, or even writing your own book. Keep a passion alive by trying new things and challenging yourself (e.g. in the case of reading, you could try new genres or try reading books that are a little more challenging). This post at The Muse offers more tips for finding your passion.
Learn Something New
Don’t be afraid to start learning something new. The challenge of learning a new sport, language, or musical instrument can give you something new to aim for. Consider something that you have always wanted to learn and work out the best way to learn it – you may be able to self-teach yourself through apps and videos, or you could attend classes and workshops.
Pass on Your Knowledge
It’s possible that you may already have valuable knowledge that you can pass on to others. This could be anything from teaching a skill to teaching others how to recover from a specific life trauma. Passing on knowledge is a great means of leaving a legacy, helping your life to feel more fulfilled. There are so many ways to pass on your knowledge including hosting workshops, starting a blog, starting a vlog, or even creating your own course.
Pursue Your Beliefs
Another way to find your purpose could be to pursue your beliefs. If religion is a big part of your life and you are not already involved in a church, you could consider joining a church such as the Living Church of God and dedicating more of your time to your faith. If there are social issues that you feel strongly about such as climate change, race inequality, animal cruelty, or homelessness, you could alternatively join activism groups or get involved in charities invested in these causes. Alternatively, if you’ve got beliefs and you are doubting them, don’t be afraid to go out of your way to challenge your beliefs by surrounding yourself with people who think differently.
Get Involved in Your Community
You can also find your purpose by getting involved in your local community. This could include taking part in community projects such as helping to organize festivals or cleaning up your local area. It could give you a great sense of achievement and could also be a great way to meet new people.
