With summer almost here, we have been getting our summer ready. In the backyard, we want to be ready for backyard barbeques, lounging on the patio, but also somewhere for the princess to also enjoy hanging out and playing. To get the backyard started with a kid spot, DIY paver hopscotch was our first choose.
The princess and I headed to Lowe’s on a Sunday morning, to get pavers and spray paint. Oh, did I mention it is also very, very, easy. At Lowe’s I picked a long style paver, instead of a square one. We brought 6 pavers, as we had 4 squares one we already had from another project, we would be using for this one. The princess picked the paint color she wanted to pain the pavers. Of course, she picked pink.
Once home, we unloaded the car and started working on our paver hopscotch. The first thing the princess and I did, we made our own number stencils. I just use some printer paper and free handed drew the numbers on. The princess help with cutting them out.
Next step, with some help from B was to tape down the stencils.
Third step spray paint the pavers. Of course the color pattern is endless, you can choose one color like we did or use to do each paver a different color. One of the long pavers broke, but we still used it.
Fourth step let dry. The let them dry overnight, before we played a round of hopscotch. Don’t worry about any grass that is now a new color from the spray paint. Just use your weed eater around the paver hopscotch to get rid of the painted grass.
It is that easy! We had two different size paver’s so we just alternated between the two. The paver that broke, we used it for the number 3 and 4 on the hopscotch. We have enjoyed some fun playing on the paver hopscotch. And when other kids are over, it adds to the backyard fun for the kids to play a little game of hopscotch.

We had a hopscotch painted on our back patio. I loved to play lawn darts.
So fun, my kids love hopscotch, too! We just draw it on the pavement with chalk. I like this project, though, just do it one time and it’s always there. The kids also like playing tag and anything with a ball. Pinned!
How fun – that would be great to add to a backyard for when friends come over. Love it!
I love the mix of a diy project that invites play time. We play volleyball often in the summer and we set up an archery range.
I like hopscotch! By the way, the idea is really awesome and interesting. I think I should try it for my yard. Thank you so much and keep posting things like this.
It’s a inexpensive way to add some fun and pop of color to the backyard.
