Today I had a field trip plan for toddler girl. Our original plan was to head to check out the Kikansha Thomas (Steam Train Thomas or Thomas the train) that was in Japan. Fail to notice, you had to reserve tickets in advance and the train only runs at certain times. Oops.. But that was ok, because today the dinosaurs exhibit started at the Pacifico Yokohama.
We headed to the train station with some friends to go check out the Dinosaurs: The Growth and Behavior of Dinosaurs. Toddler girl likes dinosaurs, thanks to watching Dino Dan. Anytime I see a dinosaur exhibit, we make sure to check them out. It’s a fun way to learn about dinosaurs. It makes for a great homeschooling field trip.
When we enter the exhibit, dinosaur heads greeted us. The kids all took off excitedly to check out the first display. This one was neat, as there were a number of robotic dinosaurs. The heads move and they roar. It was like being in Jurassic Park, expect the dinosaurs were not after us.
The bonus was the kiddos were able to ride two robotic dinosaurs there. To protect the privacy of my friend’s kid I’ve given her a smiley face. After riding the dinosaurs, we made our way to the gift store and brought a couple of trinkets. It was a fun day had by all. The kids had a blast and toddler girl is ready to head to the National Museum of Nature and Science Tokyo to check out the dinosaurs there again. I’ll start planning her next field trip, because learning should be fun.
The exhibit will last from 7/16 – 8/25 from 10:00am – 5:00pm. Tickets are 1600yen for adults and 900 for children. Children 3 years old and younger are free. It is about 40 minutes train/subway ride to the nearest station to Pacifico Yokohama. You change trains once in Yokohama to the Minatomirai Line and ride to MM03 which is Miniatomirai Station. From there you are about a five minutes walk through Queen’s Square to get to Pacifico Yokohama.
Check out the Dinosaur website for more information. It is in Japanese, but Google Chrome, does a good job of translating the page.

It sounds like a perfect day with the kiddos. I’ve done the same thing with wanting to do something but not realizing you had to have tickets in advance. It happens to us all at some point or another, but you just keep right on trucking like you did so that everyone enjoys the day! My little one enjoys the dinosaurs at our museum, but they don’t have anything as cool as the robotic ones you wrote about and the kids got to enjoy!
Yes, it turned out great. They were all ready to spend the day checking out trains, so had to find something they would enjoy. Who doesn’t like dinos!
This looks so cool and I would love to visit. Perfect learning environment for children too 🙂 Thanks for sharing.
Yes, it was a good environment for learning and it was fun.
What an awesome experience. My boys would love to see the dinos.
Wow that looks like so much fun!
Our kids went to the local dino exhitbit recently too – and loved it. Ours didn’t have the robotic dino ride though – that would have been awesome.
Glad you and your kids had a great time checking out your local exhibit. It is great when these exhibits come around. The robotic dino ride was an added bonus.
