Sometimes we all hate that dreaded commute and wish that we could just bypass any of those jam-packed highways and go off-road. And if you are looking to make a massive difference to the quality of your ride, you may want to make some modifications. Turning your car into an off-road behemoth is not always feasible, but if you want to give your car some love while also making it ready for all manner of terrain, you should try some of these off-road modifications.

Tires

Getting offroad wheels is going to make a massive difference to the quality of your ride. If you plan to venture away from the roads, this is the first upgrade you should make. It is also the easiest one. It makes a big difference, especially if you start driving in all manner of weather. The point is to get a purpose-built set of tires with deep tread. This ensures that you can keep your grip on any type of terrain. Most modern vehicles are equipped with high-quality tires, but when you are venturing off-road, the adverse weather conditions can be life or death, which is not ideal if you plan on taking the kids off-road! Tires will keep your tread on snow, mud, or sand. However, you should probably avoid driving across the beach when there are people present!

Lift Kit

This is a crucial upgrade if you want to create more room under the vehicle. Giving your car a few inches of extra boost off the ground means that if you plan on going off-road on a regular basis, obstacles won’t jump up into the most important parts of the vehicle. Having that all-important ground clearance is essential, but a few inches of boost can make a massive difference. Depending on the configuration of your vehicle, the lift kit can have different types of content.

A Hitch

If you plan on towing things, you need to put a hitch on the back of your vehicle. It is the perfect way to mount many accessories. If you plan on venturing across the country for a camping trip or you are making a big move, a hitch will make life a lot easier. This is a lot cheaper than investing in a big campervan to haul everything. It’s a perfect way to bring the most essential pieces of your vacation along with you, such as a bike, barbecues, and of course, spare tires. The best hitches have a solid tow point, so if you ever find yourself stuck in a ditch, you will be able to get out with minimal problems.

Skid Plates

If you are going off-road, you’ve got to be aware of the potential for skidding. Whatever type of vehicle you’ve got, the underneath of the vehicle is going to come into contact with a lot of adverse terrains. This is where you need a high-quality skid plate. It acts as a piece of armor for the front of your vehicle, protecting the engine pan and radiator from any problems, such as boulders, and gritty pieces of mud.

Suspension

It’s important to replace your suspension with heavy-duty springs and bushings. It doesn’t just lift your vehicle up more, but it will give your vehicle that foundation of strength. If you ever find yourself off-roading and you have a snapped bolt, you are going to be stranded. Using polyurethane bushings will give you a stronger vehicle, ensuring you can get out of any pickles.

A Winch

A sturdy winch will be a lifesaver and can pull you out of many different tricky situations. If you ever try to go off-road, you need to be aware of the potential for falling into ditches. But this is not always easy of course. It’s also handy to help other off-roaders if they need some support. A strong winch is invaluable.

A Bull Bar

Sometimes, if you find yourself in off-road situations, and you need something strong, especially if you’re going through stormy weather, you may need to go through something rather than over it. A strong bull bar will give you a clear path and greatly reduce damage to the front of your vehicle.

Roof Rack

If you are going for that off-road experience, you will need to take a lot of extra equipment. This is where a roof rack is a lifesaver. A solid roof rack with some heavy-duty straps will give you all the sturdiness you need to keep your extra storage secure.

As you can see, there are many different things you can do to give your car that off-road modification. There’s no futuristic tech here, just simple things that come highly recommended!
