According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, deja vu means a feeling that one has seen or heard something before. Willow Raye has recently released her debut single “Deja Vu”. Will it have you feeling like it’s deja vu?
Does the song have a storyline? Yes! But, the song leaves me wanting more… I want to feel her emotions oozing through the song. Willow needs to draw from past experience and have it heard in her voice when she sings. Don’t get me wrong, this girl has pipes and she’s not afraid to show it. But “Deja Vu” comes off as just someone with a great voice singing a song.
That’s not to say this is a bad song, because it’s a good song with good vocals. I truly like the song. “I know I just met you, but I’m feeling your touch. You give me deja vu. You give me deja vu…” the lyrics pull you in because you want to want to hear the story. As I said, the storyline is there, so the song is very relatable to many people. It can give you deja vu because you’ll think she’s singing the song for you. That’s the power of a song telling a story.
“Deja Vu” is just the tip of the iceberg of the music that Willow will be putting out. It’s a song that’s worthy of being added to your playlist. I look forward to hearing more from Willow Raye.
