Indonesia is one of the most desirable destinations in the world and each year it welcomes millions of tourists on its many islands. The lavish greenery, fresh food, and turquoise sea draw people here for a variety of reasons – from vacation to getting married. Due to its broad charm, Bali, in particular, is a great place to go on family travel, especially with your children.
Nature and wildlife alone will be interesting enough for the youngsters, but they will also enjoy the numerous activities they can engage in. Here are some of the things to expect from this Indonesian gem that will enrich your family with an utterly enthralling experience.

1. Visit the water parks
Bali has remarkable water parks, intended for the whole family to have fun. So it’s no surprise that it’s home to the biggest water park in Asia and the third largest one in the world, Waterbom Bali. Here you can try some of the adrenaline-boosting rides like Climax where you will drop 52 feet down, or Fast ‘n’ Fierce where you can race your kids on the slides.
A more timid version better suited for smaller children is New Kuta Green Park, which has water playground for kids, paintball and flying fox. Also, Lollypop Playland is a great water park and indoor playground which offers rock climbing and large trampolines. If you want to avoid big crowds, then you should visit Waterpark Bali, which is similar to Waterbom, only cheaper.
2. Take a bite of Balinese cuisine
Food is everywhere in Bali, especially in tourist areas, so you will have no trouble finding palate pleasers. Also, the food’s considerably adjusted to tourists, meaning you won’t have any problems if your kids are fussy eaters. However, it would be a shame not to try something authentically Balinese that even kids will enjoy, like fried rice or noodles.
Seafood is the center of cuisine here, so in local restaurants, you’ll always be able to order fresh dishes enriched with special sauces. Barbequed mashed chicken with spices on a lemongrass stick called Sate is tasty and light, although the fish version called Lilit Ikan is tasty as well. When it comes to sweets, Pisang Goreng is a famous dessert here; it’s actually fried bananas served with vanilla ice cream, flaked coconut and palm sugar syrup, which kids especially like.
3. Meet the animals of Bali
Elephant Safari Park and Bali Safari Marine Park are some of the places where you can ride elephants and meet these gorgeous animals. If you want to see monkeys, head to the Sacred Monkey Forest in Ubud, just make sure not to come too close since they can be moody. Bali Zoo has a variety of animals like the Asian small-clawed otter, siamang and Moluccan king parrot, which you will hardly spot in nature or on a safari.
4. Don’t miss the pearly beaches
In Bali, the beaches are more than spots to get your tan and swim, which makes them an ideal place for all sorts of activities. Firstly, the island has excellent wedding planners like Your Bali Wedding, which combined with the numerous pearly beaches makes a perfect destination wedding. Secondly, these coastal beauties attract passionate photographers from around the world. And, most important for families, they leave so much room for entertainment, adventure, and adrenaline.
For example, diving and snorkeling will give you an opportunity to see rich marine life like mola mola and nudibranchs which kids will love. Some of the most popular beaches to visit with children are Mengiat Beach in Nusa Dua, Tanjung Benoa Beach Bali and Pandawa due to safe waves and closeness to the shoreline. Since surfing is very popular here, have a few lessons with your children and have fun together trying to conquer the waves.
5. See how the chocolate is made
It would be a shame to come to Bali and not visit one of the most popular sights that every child will adore, as do adults. Big Tree Farms Bamboo Chocolate Factory offers insight into how chocolate bars are made from beans into this worldwide-adored product. This is a unique opportunity to witness this process and learn something about food origin and its manufacturing. Fun, educational, and tasty at the same time!
Pod Chocolate Factory is actually a farm located in the middle of rice paddies, with elephants roaming around, where you can take a tour of the cocoa plantation and factory. To teach kids more about environmental responsibility, you can take them to Big Trees Farm, which uses eco-friendly practices for growing cocoa and making its signature treats. No matter which chocolate factory you choose, the kids will definitely find it worth their time.
All in all
The diverse properties of Bali make it an ideal spot to take your children with you on a truly exotic adventure. Besides being a popular romantic destination, this is also a fantastic place to take your children and show them the beauties of nature. With so many water parks, interesting animal species and irresistible beaches, the whole family will have fun spending quality time together.

Loved this post! I have been dreaming about going to Bali for a while and your description is helping to bring the dream closer to reality. While it obviously is great for families, I think a girlfriend’s week might be good to!
That would be one awesome experience!
I never really wanted to visit Bali because I’m not that into beaches, but I didn’t realise all the other things you can do there! I would LOVE to see how chocolate gets made, and visit their water parks. Plus I adore animals so seeing them would be a must!
Bali is sooo high up on my bucket list! Love this!
