Creativity is something kids naturally have in droves. They’ve got wide imaginations, and just need the freedom and materials to make use of them! And as a homeschooling parent, you’ll definitely want to encourage this within the classroom. You want your children’s natural talents to shine through, and thankfully, there are many ways to allow this to happen.
After all, in a home school setting, you’ve got much more freedom. You can make education a lot of fun for them, and you can always try something new as a little experiment to see how your kids respond. To help you out with putting a bit more inspiration into the classroom, here are some ideas to get started with.
Have More Than One Solution
The more restrictions there are in the classroom, the more likely the kids are to be bored in their lessons. As such, it’s a good idea to have more than one solution to any task. And when your kids have the freedom to investigate and come up with their own ideas.
Most of all, if you make sure they won’t be told they’re wrong for stepping out of the box, they’ll continue to think creatively. If you’re worried about your child’s ability to manage this, sometimes you just need to present them with a problem and just let them come up with a solution entirely on their own!
Use Online Tools
The online world has a lot of innate creativity. It’s a place that’s rife with text and images, and not all of it is just text speak you’d expect from teenagers! You can find games online, as well as communities your child may find a place with one day, and using these concepts as a learning tool can be a very good thing.
After all, computers can accomplish a lot, and in a matter of seconds. So let your kids spend more educational time in front of the keyboard, using programs such as ABCmouse. There are a lot of online platforms for teaching kids creative ways to solve problems, and making good use of them can help you to encourage healthy use of the online world as well.
Let Them Take Charge
Sometimes it’s best to just let the kids do what they want! Of course, that sounds like absolute mayhem, and it can be if there’s no lesson plan in place. But if you want your kids to show a little more creativity, letting them take on some kind of control is key.
Get them to lead for a few minutes, especially if it’s a subject they love. Let them do a presentation once a week, with a practical for the class to follow along with. If you let them stand up and shine, with a general theme to follow along with, you’ll be surprised by just how many different ideas they come up with.
Are you worried about your child’s creativity? Then it’s time to foster it in the classroom!
