It will be time to PCS before we know it. I am trying to knock as much off my Japan bucket list as I can this summer. One of the things on the list is Odawara Castle. Today toddler girl and I hopped on the train to head to Odawara and check out the castle.
Getting there was easy too. Toddler girl and I took a train from Ofuna Station to Odawara. It was about a 40 minute ride from Ofuna Station to Odawara Station. But it was easy! You can also take the shinkansen (bullet train). It is a short walk from the train station to the castle. You take the East Exit out the train station and the castle will be to your right. You can see it from the station. There are also signs pointing you in the direction, so it makes it very easy to get there. I followed the sign for the North entrance, as it was the shortest distance and better for toddler girl. Along the way, there were this cute pictures on the sidewalk.
The castle was built-in 1447, but rebuilded in 1633 and 1703. The castle’s look from the outside reminds me of the castle in Osaka. There was an admission ticket that you buy at the entrance of the castle. The castle is 4 stories tall. The castle, is more of a museum, with each floor showing many unique things, taking you back in history. Unfortunately, you are not allowed to take photos inside the castle.

I am fasinated with castles and would love to visit this one. I have never been in a real castle yet, one day
Japan was the first castles I have visited. They are pretty amazing. To know that Emperors lived there and the history behind each castle is great learning experience.
That looks like a great place to visit, too bad you couldn’t take photos inside. I still haven’t been to Japan but it’s on my bucket list. I would be taking a picture of everything, lol!
Yes, I was disappointed not being able to take pictures inside. But it was a great being able to see the history. I hope you are able to check it off your bucket list, it is truly and amazing country.
Those were some really cute sidewalk art 😀 I wish we had them here!
This looks like a really good place to go visit. It reminds me of many scenes from various movies I’ve seen. I am sure my family would enjoy visiting there.
Wow, this looks like such a cool place to visit! Japan is high up on my bucket list!
Wow, these pictures are amazing! My daughter got to go to Japan twice with her school and she brought back the neatest stuff. I will visit there some day!
Japan has always been on my bucket list ever since I was probably 8 years old! I’ll definitely have to add this to my list of stops!
Oh wow! Being a self-proclaimed Princess, I am obsessed with castles! This one looks amazing! I haven’t ever been to Japan, but it’s on my bucket list because my uncle used to be stationed there and that’s where he met his wife. I don’t know how often they go back to visit now, but she brought me some beautiful dolls from Japan when I was a little girl. Great post!
I love seeing how castles around the world look! What was the most interesting artifact you saw on the inside?
I like seeing the suits of armor from that time era.
Wow, amazing that it dates back to the 15th century! I’m glad it was easy to get there. I’d certainly visit this beautiful castle 🙂
