Tigger warning… this post is about domestic violence. Today I want to help Shannie Ross in bringing awareness to domestic violence. You can read more about Shannie Ross on her Artist Spotlight here.

Shannie Ross is using her platform as a music artist and advocate to bring awareness to domestic violence. This past October her cousin Kaouta’s life was taken by the hands of her abuser  – who was her husband. Kaouta was headed to work the morning of her death when she was attacked and stabbed to death by her husband right on the road outside of her place of employment. She was an HISD bus driver.

According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence website on average, nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the United States. During one year this equates to more than 10 million women and men.

Somethings we just will never understand… and this is one of them. I’ve never felt this type of feeling ever before, a feeling of really not even knowing how to feel… guess you can call it confusion, shock, and denial. I can’t seem to wrap my mind around my cousin being gone. That smile is what I will carry with me forever. Praying that God brings my family and I closer and give my family some understanding and some peace. I love you beautiful, get some rest. – Shannie Ross

Shannie Ross has put together a march Purple for Katie that will take place on December 13, 2018. Time and location are being finalized, please check back.  As an advocate, she not only want to reach just her local area of Houston, TX but want to reach everyone to bring awareness of domestic violence. One voice is powerful, image the power of many voices.

Sadly, we all know one person – a friend, family member, a co-worker, former classmate, who has been a victim of domestic violence. Yes, people will say leave, but for the person being abused, it is easier said than done. This is why Shannie has put together the march Purple for Katie. It’s for Katie, but it’s also for all the other victims of domestic violence.

If this message touches you, share it! Share it on social media, tell a friend, email it, it doesn’t matter how you share the message – the goal is to bring awareness. Together we can bring awareness, give encouragement to someone who is ready to take the step to escape their abuser, and/or save a life.
