Welcome to new series I will be having on the blog this year – Small Business Spotlight. As Life of Creed continues to grow I also want to share about other business that’s doing the same. Today’s Spotlight is on Smooth Finishes, owned by Cody. Cody is also my nephew (more like a brother, as we’re close in age).
If you are looking for a painter or handyman in the Houston area make sure to contact Cody. He also serves the areas surrounding Houston and Louisiana.
Now, let’s jump right into the interview with Cody.
Tell me about your business and why you started it.
I painted in the oil field for 10 years. Since the big oil spill happened the industry changed and I got tired of being laid off. I took what I love and know best and started my own business doing interior and exterior house painting.
What has been the most effective way of raising awareness of your business and getting new customers?
Craigslist is a very effective way of raising awareness. I also get referrals from jobs I have completed. I share the before and after pics of jobs I have done on Facebook and Instagram, to give a great visual of my work.
What services do you offer?
Smooth Finishes offers interior and exterior painting on homes and business, gutter cleaning, and small honey-do list handyman projects. You can see a couple of my painting projects below.
What is the best advice you have received recently?
What’s one tip you can give to someone thinking of starting a business?
When you start a business it should be something you enjoy, love and willing to always learn more to become a master at it. Never settle for less or sell yourself short.
Tell us a fun fact about yourself.
I like cooking and coming up with different recipes. I really love fishing, it’s peaceful, quiet, and good eating too.
