It’s been a while since we’ve had an Artist Spotlight on the blog, but we are starting the New Year with a great band that you should have on your radar. The first Artist Spotlight os 2019 is Bad Bones. We are jammin’ their album High Roller.
The first song on their album is “American Days” and I can hear right away they have an old-school rock metal sound. Jumping to the second track “Lost Again” their is a great guitar solo, that you hope for in any rock song. Vocals are outstanding in this band. This is not a band with a one song pop and then the next pop-rock, it’s strictly metal and rock with Bad Bones.
My favorite on the album is “Wild Rose”, this is a song that makes you want to get up and move around. Reminds me of days at school dances just dancing and hair just swinging around my head. “Midnight Rider” follows and another great song.
I love the way “Solitary Fields” starts off, that intro… This would be my second favorite on High Roller. Dare I say it, it has this “Purple Rain” vibe when you listen to just the instruments. Almost to the end of the song, there is a small guitar solo, which is what draws you in soon it starts playing.
“Now or Never” would be my least favorite. Not that it’s a bad song, because it’s not. It just wasn’t for me. Surprising it has the same vibe as “Wild Rose” so you would think I would like this one. It could be the tempo of this song, it’s a slower tempo and fades into more of a Settle grunge style song.
“Blood Trails” follow suit and brings back a better tempo and gives the sound that I want to hear when listening to rock and metal music. “Wolf Town” continues on with a nice and fast tempo. This one makes up for the slow tempo on “Now or Never”.
“Story of a Broken Bone” from the title I wanted more story about Bad Bones and their journey. Still a good song, but I was just wanting to get a different feeling from the song. “Rock’N Me” is a cover song, done very well. It doesn’t sound like bad karaoke – which sometimes happen when doing a cover.
Overall it’s a good album. It’s an album that you can listen to and not want to skip to the next song. I’m sure you can find a song or three to add to your playlist. Make sure to check out the videos for “American Days” and “Midnight Rider” below.
