Different Kinds Of Embroidery:

If you have a lot of furniture in your room, it could be taking up too much space. You may have placed an extra chair in your room because you didn’t know where else to put it, but it’s time to take out some of the extra furniture so that you’ll instantly have more space to move around inside your bedroom. Once you start removing a few items, you’ll quickly see the difference it makes.

1. Chikankari – Originally from the rich land of Lucknow, chikankari is believed to be introduced by Nur Jehan. It was originally used as a white on white embroidery which was nothing short of delicate and artful work. It is one of the best textiles work ever produced and the textiles used were chiffon, organza, and net. Today, cotton and satin threads are used which are of different colors and produce remarkable results. The embellishments used for this kind of stitch are generally beads and sequins which simply enhance the look of the fabric. One more thing to keep in mind is that fabric used for chikankari should not be thick as the design and the artwork gets hidden under the heavy sheets. Usually, people prefer to use cotton, semi-georgette, silk, and chiffon for chikankari embroidery.

2. Split Stitch – One of the most common stitches which beginners learn is that of a split stitch. This stitch resembles a mini-chain design if done continuously on a piece of fabric. The stitch is used to usually border some design which you are going to make. Outlining floral designs using this stitch is always welcome as it looks very distinctive and pretty.

3. Kantha – This stitch is originally from the states of Bengal and Odisha. It was traditionally used on dhotis and sarees which had a simple running pattern of stitch. The yarn used for this kind of embroidery was that from borders of used cloth. It results in a wrinkled appearance of the cloth and hence has a very distinct style. The effect produced is that of a crushed cloth which sets it apart from other stitches. Today, it is commonly used on all kinds of dupattas, shirts, and sarees and also on upholstery.

4. Phoolkari – Punjab has not just given us sarson ka saag but also one of the most famous stitches in the world known as Phoolkari. This work consists of flower motifs and they are embroidered on the backside of the cloth due to which the design can be seen in the front. The cloth used for this kind of stitch is hand spun or naturally dyed khadi cloth. The work has a characteristic of light-colored designs on a dark-colored cloth or the other way round. The contrast of different colors is something which distinguishes it from other types of embroidery. The designs are made using silk threads and women used to originally make them in their free time.

Thus, these were the top 4 types of embroidery stitches known all over the world. The stitches are nothing short of beauty and elegance.
