Despite her famous song, Cher never did find a way to turn back time. She, like the rest of us, has to deal with the inevitable consequences of aging. It happens to us all, and no matter how many miracle creams we use, no matter how many facelifts we pay for, and no matter how many time travel time films we seek to learn lessons from, there is no way that we can turn back time either. We are all getting old.

It’s a depressing thought, we know.

Still, the prospect of your senior years doesn’t have to fill you with gloom. There are things we should all be doing now to ensure our older years are good ones.

Here are a few prime examples.

#1: Protecting our finances

The prospect of going to work fills many of us with dread on a daily basis, so the thought of retirement might be something we actually look forward to. Of course, this is assuming we have the finances to retire comfortably because, if we don’t, we might have to work well into our senior years. Horrible thought, right?

To ensure we aren’t ‘working for the man’ forevermore now is the time to start saving money. We should put money into an emergency fund to mitigate the risk of debt due to a financial disaster, and we should be putting more money away for our retirement fund.

Now is also the time to make a concerted effort to pay off those debts that we already owe. They will only be hanging over our heads like a black cloud of financial misery if we don’t, so if you haven’t already, make finding ways to eliminate your debts a priority.

We should also seek advice on our finances. We can do this by speaking to those financial professionals who can help us to make sensible decisions with our money, and we can do this by following the links on senior websites that pertain to our finances in our advancing years.

#2: Looking after our health needs

Old age sucks, but if we are in a healthy position to enjoy it, we won’t have to worry about age-related health problems, care options, and the prospect of spending endless hours in front of the TV because we are too ill to do anything else. Oh, and if we do focus on our health, we will also live a lot longer too!.

So, make an effort to do those things that will minimize the risk of poor health when you’re older.

Exercise on a daily basis. Eat foods that are good for you. Cut out those bad habits that will escalate the risk of poor health as you age, such as smoking, drinking, and sitting in front of the TV for too long. And be sure to go for your medical checkups so that any potential problems can be dealt with early.

#3: Fulfilling our bucket lists

You might not have the opportunity to finish off your bucket list when you’re at an advanced age, so make every effort to do so now.

Take part in those activities that you have always wanted to try, explore Europe and any other parts of the world that you are desperate to see, and do anything else that pertains to your bucket list.

By doing so, you will have a happier older age thanks to the memories you will be able to hold onto, and a lack of regrets weighing you down.

Start Getting Rid of Your Mess

It’s hard to relax in a bedroom when you look around and see clothes on the floor, shoe boxes against the wall, and papers all over the place. How can you relax when everything is such a mess? The best thing to do is start getting rid of the mess quickly. Throw out anything you’re not planning to use, donate items that are still in good condition, and get a sturdy hamper for your laundry to keep it off the floor and in one spot.

Bring in More Light

If you install a mirror on the wall, consider placing it on the opposite side of the window. When its bright and sunny outside, the sun will shine right into the bedroom and reflect off the mirror. The additional brightness may eliminate some of the dark shadows that may appear in different parts of the bedroom while naturally making the room look a lot brighter. Not only does a mirror bring in more light, it’s great to have inside of your bedroom because you make want to check your hair, makeup, or overall look before you go out somewhere.
