Whether you are learning something yourself, or possibly homeschooling your kids, you will find that it can be hugely beneficial to know more about how you can improve learning. In fact, this itself is one of the best things you can ever learn! The truth is that there are a lot of tried and tested means through which you should be able to boost learning, whether your own or someone else’s, and knowing about this upfront is definitely going to be a good approach to take.
In this post, we are going to take a look at some of the most powerful ways in which you can boost learning so that the results are going to be a lot clearer and a lot better on the whole. Let’s take a look at what this might involve.
Define Clear Goals
We tend to learn best when we know why we are doing it, and what we are hoping to get out of it. If you are able to define some clear goals, therefore, you are going to find that it makes for a much easier process in general when it comes to learning more effectively.
The goal can be anything you like. It might be aiming to understand a particular topic as fully as possible by the end of the month. Or it might be anything as long as it is concrete and you can keep on top of it easily. All in all, it’s something that is going to make a profound difference. So if you haven’t already, you might want to think about trying to define some goals for learning, and then watch what that does to the process of learning itself.
Improve Problem Solving Abilities
A lot of learning is all about being able to solve problems well. As long as you are able to do that, it is generally going to mean that your learning process is a lot simpler and more powerful. So if you can improve your general problem-solving abilities, that is something that is going to make for a much better chance of the information actually staying in.
So how can you do this? There are quite a few angles from which you might want to consider the matter of improving problem-solving. For instance, you might need to first overcome some unconscious biases that might have cropped up – which is something that happens to all of us. You can look to STL for help with that kind of thing. You might also need to practice problem-solving in a wider range of instances to really hone in on how it works.
However you achieve it, improving problem-solving abilities will inevitably lead to a much better able to learn in general, so it’s certainly something that is worth thinking about.
Shorten The Lesson Time
Whether you are teaching someone else or self-studying, there are often benefits to keeping the amount of time you spend on a lesson a little shorter. You don’t want it to be too short, of course – there should be enough time to really investigate and explore the topic as fully as you can. But if you just keep it a little bit shorter, you might be amazed at how much of a difference that really can make.
For kids especially, reducing the time slightly when you notice that they are flagging and their attention is waning, can really help a lot. And you’ll find that so much more of the information actually stays in as a result, which is of course the whole point of doing this.
Try Teaching
There is something about teaching a topic that means you have to know it yourself, and many people actually find that the very act of teaching is something that can make it easier for knowledge to sink in. So if you are trying to learn something that you are keen to remember well, talking about it aloud in a teacher’s manner is one way that you can really ensure you are going to remember it so much more effectively.
If you have never tried that before, you might want to give it a go, as you might be pleasantly surprised at the results. It’s definitely something that is going to make a considerable difference, and it’s worth trying at least.
Those are just some of the powerful ways to boost learning considerably, so make sure that you try these all at some point or another, either for yourself or your kid.
