I have a special treat for the Artist Spotlight; The Bonazzoli Band. I have a new sound of music to share with you. The band slogan is “The best of 20th Century Music wrapped into a 21st Century alternative.” Trust me, when I say they do a wonderful job. Let’s talk about their album American Ghost Stories!

Listening to the album American Ghost Stories is like listening to Johnny Cash meets Elvis Presley. The Bonazzoli Band is a unique sound all its own, that makes you tap your feet to music.

I am listening to American Ghost Stories, all I can think about is seeing these songs unfold into a stage play. Who wouldn’t want to see a ghost story acted out in a stage play? I know I would! Matthew Bonazzoli says, “American Ghost Stories is a sort of musical tribute to old time radio shows. There are ghost stories, romance, detective stories and more. That being said, the songs are still all quite accessible. We pride ourselves on musicality as well as having very meaningful, poetic lyrics.”

Gather around the computer; let me share my favorites off the album. First is Double Cross. Loving the beat; it is a great tempo! You can slow dance or just dance around the room feeling the music. The guitars, well played and the locals are spot on. Black Cat makes me think of my childhood and being told not to cross a path with a black cat and if I did, to make the sign off the cross. It brings black memories for me with it’s up-tempo beat. Listening to this track, you get the story telling, you want to close your eyes and image the words being played out on stage or in a movie. If You Wait For Me is a nice love song. It makes me think of a girlfriend or wife, waiting for her service member to return home. The hand-written letters being exchange and the letters from the service member saying, “If you wait for me, I’ll be home”.

Invicta, is a song that highlights the musicians. You get to listen to the musicians, play their heart out. The guitarists are making their guitars sing, while the drummer keeps the tempo with the snare drum and high-hat. The pianist brings in just enough to balance out the sound. Even though the guitars are the lead of the song, I am drawn the drums like a moth to a flame. This is my favorite of all the songs I like. Each song tells a story, just like would get in an old time radio show. The album closes with Do They Dream, a lovely arrangement, that closes out the show. The curtains close! Well done The Bonazzoli Band, well done! They are all great songs, each bringing a beautiful told story sang to you for your listening pleasure.

The Bonazzoli Band is set to release a third album in early 2016, so be on the look out for new music. While you wait, please check out the video to Taking Chances of the American Ghost Stories album:
